2024 - Active Women and Girls funding grant

Active Women and Girls Funding Grant

At River City Hornets, we are proudly committed to creating equal opportunities for girls to participate, thrive and lead in sport. We actively support and encourage girls at every level - From first-time players to future leaders - by fostering a safe, inclusive and empowering environment.

We strive to create a culture that celebrates all athletes and we're proud to be committed to breaking down barriers and building confidence. Because every girl deserves the chance to play, grow and shine!

In Season 2, 2024 we were excited to share the announcement that we were awarded a Queensland Government Active Women and Girls funding grant of $7,500.

After some planning on how to use these funds to support our female players by increasing their skills, on and off the court we were thrilled to put the grant into action by delivering a great program, delivered by strong female role models, free to our River City Hornets girls!

We collaborated with the fabulous Aja Parham-Ammar from The Sports Mindset and delivered a 6 week program focussed on skills, speed and agility.

We then teamed up with Mikhaela Cann, the founder of Assist Athlete Services to deliver a 6 week online program developed to give our female athletes the skills and tools to help them in all aspects of their lives, on and off the court - Not just in the basketball world.
